Mrs. Elves / Mrs. Mackay

I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to teach your child this year! I have very high expectations for our classroom and I am confident we will have a very enriching and productive school year!

Teaching is my passion, and the career that I have dreamed of since I was in Kindergarten. This will be my 7th year teaching, and I am looking forward to incorporating exciting professional development into my practice this year. I am very lucky to be married to someone who shares the same passion as myself, my husband teaches high school in Calgary and when he is not teaching he is on the court coaching basketball. We love spending our weekends with our dog Lambeau and our cat Vince, both of whom are quite the characters who your child will get to know through stories! We also count to the 100th day of school with Lambeau’s paws.

I am very excited to work with a Grade One/Two Combined again this year. Building a strong classroom community where students are all friends and colleagues has always been a high priority of mine and I am thrilled with the potential a combined class provides. At RancheView we have established that we will be a school that focuses on community and leadership, and in my opinion a combined class is the perfect example of that! I work very closely with both Grade One and Two teachers and I believe our class will have the best of both worlds!

I believe that clear communication between home and school is important for your child’s education. Soon your child will begin to write you notes using the school agenda. It can also be used to communicate between teacher and parent. We will get into the routine of opening our agendas on our desks every morning.

To keep on top of what is happening in the classroom, every week the class and I will email a Weekly What’s Up email that the class creates every Friday. Please review our entries with your child on Friday’s so you can have conversations of what they are working on.

Don't forget to follow our learning on Instagram @mrselvesclass

I am always available through email and will do my best to respond as soon as possible. The school phone number is 403-932-9811 and my email address is melves@rockyview.ab.ca
