Ms. Slack

My name is Ms. Slack and it is my pleasure to welcome your child to my classroom for a wonderful year of learning.  This year I will be teaching Gr. 6. I was born and raised in Calgary where I completed both my Linguistics and Education degrees at the University of Calgary. This will be my third year teaching. I have taught grades 4, 6, and 8 in previous years. In my free time I enjoy travelling, hiking, horseback riding, and reading, and spending time with my friends and family. My most recent trip was to Ottawa, Niagara Falls, and Old Quebec City in the Spring. While in Ottawa I even had the opportunity to sit in on a meeting inside the House of Commons. I am truly looking forward to getting to know each one of our Grade 6 leaders here at RancheView, and I know we will have a fantastic year together!

We will primarily be using Google Classroom and Google Docs this year to share notes, assignments, and to submit completed work. If you would like access to these sites, please ask your son or daughter to help you log into their account.

The Google Calendar will provide you with information on due dates and upcoming events at RancheView. Please note that I generally do not send homework. I believe that students should be able to complete tasks and assignments during class where myself and peers are there to support one another. If the student is not making effective use of their class time, then these tasks and/or assignments may need to be completed at home.

Under the Newsletter section you will find our classroom Weekly Updates, which I will have posted on Fridays. These updates generally include information about topics covered that week and what to look forward to the following week.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns by writing a note in your child's agenda or by email at kslack.

  1. Please remind your child to practice their home reading on a regular basis.

  2. Please have your child go on our digital levelled reading program Raz Kids and share their reading with you.
